The Dogs

Midget The dogs came into my life when I moved into my rental house in Oak Hill in June. The family (7 puppies, a mama dog, and 2 papa dogs) were being cared for by my neighbor. Skippy None of them were fixed or vaccinated. The puppies were about 2 months old at that time. Two of them had been killed by cars.

In September, Midget came limping up to me with a broken femur. Since the neighbor was clearly not going to take him to the vet, I took over care of him, and he has been living in my house ever since.

Papa and the puppies His four remaining siblings and one of the papa dogs were fixed and vaccinated. In early October, the mama dog, Stripe, had another litter of puppies - 4 girls and 4 boys. Homes were found for them as soon as they went up for adoption. Soon after, Stripe was finally caught, spayed, and vaccinated.

But there was no fence there to stop them from running into the street. December 18th, Papa Dog was hit by a car and killed instantly. He was a terrific little guy and is greatly missed.

Now that we have moved into a new house with a big fenced yard, the animals are safe from cars and cold-hearted people. Midget and Skippy now reside with me permanently. They are in the midst of a wonderful training program which is slowly building their confidence and eliminating their bad habits.

The cutest thing they do is howl when the sirens come by.
