Peaches and Her Puppies
A friend of mine met a frantic homeless woman named Carol at a Stop-N-Go on July 20th.
Carol's sweet dog, Peaches, was giving birth to a litter of 12
puppies in the front floorboard of her tiny car (which she and Carol were
living in). Three of the puppies had already fallen out of the car, onto the pavement
and died.
Carol surrendered Peaches and her 9 surviving babies to us for their well
being and safety. She had 2 boys and 7 girls. Photos of her beautiful puppies
are below. They have all been adopted into loving homes.
We believe Peaches to be a Red Heeler mix, about 50 lbs.
She is very smart, docile, and responsive to humans. She is great with children,
dogs, and cats.
Peaches will be
available for adoption after her heartworm treatment in November.
Potential adopters must fill out an application.
There is a required $75 adoption fee which covers her
shots, deworming, city registration, and spay.
6 weeks of age
The puppies just had their first vet appointment.
They have now been dewormed and received their first round of puppy shots.
(see photos below)
9 weeks of age
Wonderful homes were found for 7 of the puppies. They went to their new
families between 8 and 9 weeks of age. Getting close to 10 weeks old, we
decided it was in everyone's best interest to surrender the remaining
two puppies to the SPCA Humane Society no-kill shelter. They will surely
have an easier time finding homes for the puppies. We were afraid that the
longer we tried and failed to place them, the harder it would become.
We hope for the very best for Gretta and Peter and for all the puppies and
their new families.
Peaches, the mother dog, will be available for adoption in November, after
she is spayed and treated for heartworms.
