I pulled the trap out from under the desk and brought it to the kitchen. One of the mouses legs was twisted and broken. I took a metal spoon and started carefully digging the mouses legs out of the glue. I didn't know of any methods of dissolving glue at that time. My brother came down and noticed what I was trying to do and helped me break the mouse free of the trap.
I was planning on releasing the mouse outside, but there was still a lot of glue on his legs and I was afraid he would get stuck to something outside. So I wrapped a little piece of paper towel around his legs and set him down in the back yard. He hopped away into the woods.
I don't know what became of the little mouse. I imagine he was in a lot of pain from his injuries and chances are he didn't last very long in the wild. If it happened now, I would of course do things very differently. But I did the best I could at the time with what little knowledge I had.
My Dad noticed the trap was gone and asked what had happened to it. My brother told my Dad that there was a mouse trapped in it and he had disposed of it. We were afraid he would get angry if we told him the truth. I later removed all of the glue traps from the house.
